Have you heard of “dirty sodas”? If not, you’re in for a treat—literally! Dirty sodas are classic fountain drinks (like Coke, Sprite, or Dr. Pepper) mixed with creamy, sweet, and sometimes tropical flavors like coconut, vanilla, and/or lime. The result? A soda shop-style indulgence that’s bubbly, smooth, and surprisingly refreshing.

Let’s take a tour of where you can get your hands on one—and how to whip up your own at home!

The Fizzy Trend That’s Taking Over 🥥🥛🍋‍🟩

These playful drinks known as “dirty sodas” have been around for a while, especially in Utah, where they’ve become a cultural staple thanks to spots like Swig, a soda shop that first opened in 2010. With their Instagram-worthy drinks and clever combinations, Swig helped launch dirty sodas into cult-favorite status.

Dirty sodas have also become another “mocktail” option for those who want to sip on something in a social setting without having alcohol.

Now, the dirty soda craze is bubbling over into the mainstream, and national chains are jumping in.

Make It Dirty at Home: Easy Dirty Soda Recipes

Want to try the trend without leaving the house? Making dirty soda is easier than you think!

Basic Dirty Soda Recipe

  • Start with your favorite soda (Dr. Pepper, Coke, or Sprite work great!)
  • Add 1–2 tablespoons of coconut syrup
  • Stir in a splash of half-and-half or sweet cream (about 2 tablespoons)
  • Squeeze in a bit of fresh lime juice
  • Add ice and stir gently

That’s it! Fizzy, creamy goodness in a glass.

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Vanilla or almond extract (a tiny dash goes a long way)
  • Flavored syrups like raspberry, mango, or peach
  • A splash of flavored creamers or coconut milk

Have fun experimenting with flavors to create your perfect mix!

If that all sounds like too much work, try this short cut: Nestlé Coffee mate has a Dirty Soda Coconut Lime Creamer that makes things even easier—just pour some into your soda and enjoy.

Whether you’re sipping on a dirty soda from your local drive-thru or mixing one up at home in your favorite tumbler, there’s no denying this sweet trend is here to stay.
