What
Home Depot offers
free in-store craft workshops once a month with tools and supplies provided for a new craft each time. Many of the crafts are seasonally themed or tied to holidays so they make wonderful keepsakes and great gifts. They also give kids the chance to hone their problem solving abilities and practice fine motor skills.
Who
The workshops are designed for
children ages 5-12 with help by a parent or guardian.
When
The workshops are held the
first Saturday of every month from 9 a.m. to noon while supplies last.
The crafts themselves take about a half hour to build and paint. Participants can arrive anytime between 9 a.m. and noon but
it’s recommended that participants arrive early since kits may run out for popular crafts.
Note:
November has two craft dates – one on the first Saturday and one on the last Saturday of the month just a couple days after Thanksgiving.
Where
Find your local Home Depot here to know where you’ll be heading for your crafty Saturdays.
How
Sign up here for the next workshop and see registration dates for future workshops. Registration opens about 5 weeks before the next workshop.
You’ll need to provide your name, email, and number of kids attending. You can sign up for up to four kids at a time.
The Fun Stuff
Upcoming crafts at Home Depot include:
February 1: Valentine’s Candy Box
Perfect for collecting Valentine’s cards and treats, kiddos will create a box adorned with candy heart decor that slides open for goodies.
March 1: Basketball Game
Just in time for March Madness – littles will craft a game complete with a net they can use to test their skills while flipping in a small basketball.
April 5: Globe Planter
This adorable planter is designed with a smiley-faced Earth on each side and a container in the middle. If you plan some seeds when your child finishes this craft you may see sprouts in time for
Earth Day on April 22.
May 3: Birdy Buffet
Children can attract flying friends to the yard by making this simple yet effective bird feeder.
June 7: Baseball Game
Kids will make an interactive game with points awarded for getting your ball past the “out” holes at each base and into the outfield holes.
July 5: Toucan Mobile
With this kit, littles will craft a colorful toucan whose wings flap with the pull of a cord.
August 2: Space Odyssey
Little astronauts will enjoy making this space-themed shadow box with sliding parts.
September 6: Crop Duster
Kiddos will put together a colorful kit that turns into an aircraft known as a Crop Duster complete with spinning wheels and a propeller.
October 4: Haunted Candy Box
Children will craft this festive purple and black haunted house-shaped box with “glowing” windows to keep their Halloween haul safe.
November 1: Excavator
If your kids just love construction vehicles as most do they’ll love putting together their very own excavator.
November 29: Teddy Bear Ornament
A new holiday ornament awaits with this kit that creates a teddy bear ornament complete with a place for a special picture.
December 6: Holiday Cocoa Mug
Kiddos can use the holiday mug craft they create to hold pens, paintbrushes, or other small trinkets.
Tips for Grown-Ups
- Many of the crafts include paint so dress kiddos (and yourself) in clothes you don’t mind getting messy in. Aprons are provided – but we know how paint seems to get everywhere…
- Bring a bag to carry home your craft.
- Make it a playdate! Invite friends or family with children to join in the fun so the kids can craft together. Grab a meal before or after the craft to make a day of it.
Home Depot’s free kids’ workshops are a win for parents and kids alike! They’re creative, educational, and a fantastic way to make memories as a family. Plus, with fun seasonal projects like bird feeders, candy boxes, and holiday ornaments, there’s always something new to look forward to. Be sure to register early and get ready to roll up your sleeves for a year full of fun, creativity, and smiles!
